I was thinking the other day about how much we listen to music. We bring our iPhones and iPods everywhere…exercising, walking, running, and driving around with them. We are saturated by music. This showering of sound has to have an effect on our spiritual man, right? I mean, if you stand under a shower of water, you get wet. If you lay in the sand at the beach on a summer day, you’re immersed (and sun-tanned) by the sunlight.

So what effect does the constant showering of music have on us? I would argue that the ear-buds in our ears are really doing something to us…good or bad. We were created this way, to live inside a musical atmosphere. It calms, touches, and lifts us. That’s why Saul had David play for him. Music helps to set the tone of our day. So what happens if God breathes on these sounds that are constantly pumping into our home and through our car speakers? Then the music becomes a mini worship conference, right there in our kitchen.

We need to hear living, active, God-breathed music. We are hungry for it. And I believe God is imparting to musicians in this hour a recipe for musical manna. Fresh bread, from heaven, out of the oven…

And into our ear-buds.
